The main goal and mission of the Centre is to reduce regional disparities in economic development, agricultural development, infrastructure, employment and tourism and protection of the environment that would lead to sustainable and balanced regional development.
Part of the activities of the CDSEPR are promotion of the Centre, region and the Municipalities in the region, support of the work of the Council for development of the SEPR, networking with the other Centres for Regional Development, networking of civil society and the private sector, coordination of activities for establishing incubators, technical parks and other projects, lobbying for regional priority projects, connecting and sharing experiences with regional development agencies from other countries, support for municipalities in preparing project proposals, provision of information about the region, organization of trainings and workshops for various regional stakeholders, organization and participation in fairs, support of SMEs and self-employment promotion, preparing a draft program for the development of the region, the draft action plan for the implementation of this program, preparing proposals for development of the region, coordination of activities for implementation of the programme, providing professional and technical assistance in the preparation of development programs of the local government units, encourages inter-municipal cooperation, implementation of projects financed by EU funds and other national and international financial resources, etc.
Team of employees of the Centre is composed of five members – Manager of the Centre, Manager of the Department for inter-municipal cooperation and administrative work, Manager of the Department for implementation of projects and international cooperation, Coordinator for implementation of projects, Administrator. Depending on the needs, in the implementation of projects the Centre employs additional persons to work on the projects as project staff.
A Council for development is established for each region. Members of the council for development are the mayors of the municipalities that are part of the planning region. President of the Council for development is elected from among the members of the council, for a term of two years with the right for re-election. The Council for development collaborates with regional field development experts, representatives from chamber of commerce, unions, associations, associations of citizens and relevant partners from private and civil sectors.
In its activities the Centre has successfully implemented more than 60 projects. Partners in the implementation of projects are institutions from R. Bulgaria, R. Greece, municipalities in the region, GIZ RED Programme in Macedonia etc. and the projects are mainly financed by the IPA cross-border cooperation of the EU, GIZ RED, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Bureau for Regional Development, Ministries of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, embassies of EU-member state in R.M, and other international and national funds as well.
In order to ensure balanced regional development and increase the quality of life for the citizens in the region, the Centre for development of the SEPR is constantly working on developing new projects and applies to receive funding for their implementation.
